Coqui and friends at a National Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC.

The city was still sleeping and 46th street was quiet and appeared clean. The silence, however, did not last long. In a short while, you can feel an energetic buzz from bands and dancing groups filled the street with music and smells of breakfast. The iconic NYC parade was waking up.

Besides the manager and lead representative, the first 2 marching contingent participants, a young aunt and her 24-year-old nephew, showed up ready, excited for the event to begin. Soon after, the rest of the marchers trickled in, custom T-shirts were handed out, and the atmosphere turned electric. Behind the scenes, however, a quiet crisis was unfolding...

What Just Happened?

The main performer had just made an impromptu decision to step down due to a sudden personal emergency. The center of attention was gone before the walk even started. Luckily the 24-year-old nephew, who happened to have the exact experience needed for the role, volunteered to step into the spotlight. After a frantic, high-speed rehearsal with the manager, hope was restored. The show was back on!

Following a lengthy delay for the Grand Marshal’s grand entrance, the group finally began its walk onto 5th Avenue. The energy was unmatched. Whistles pierced the air, participants danced, and a music cart blasted tropical beats just a few feet ahead, driving the crowd into a frenzy. Media cameras from local and international networks swarmed around, begging for waves, smiles, and poses. It was an absolute vibe! Then, disaster struck a second time.

Mid-stride, the manager noticed a glitch with the performer's stride. He appeared to have missed a step. The performer was sweating profusely, visibly struggling, and desperately trying to remove his headgear. Oh no…! But the beat had to go on.

Keep moving forward with the banner! Performer down!” the manager signaled. With seamless coordination, the lead representative safely guided the exhausted performer off the route for a well-deserved drink break. The rest of the crew didn’t miss a beat. Instructed to keep jumping, shouting, and waving their flags, they kept the crowd’s energy sky-high—even getting the local NYC police officers to join the dance. The immersive buzz of brand fun never wavered.
